Chocolatey Energy Shake

At the end of the summer holidays when the sun was still shining (feels like a month ago, it was actually 3 days ago) I fully intended to post this blog.

Somewhere amongst all the flapping around and trying to get organised, I forgot. So here it is - awaiting a sunny, hot day when we feel like adding ice to our smoothies!

I'm personally finding it so difficult to get my brain back into gear. Am I the only one?

My efforts have been scattered across house cleaning, my big new project of a garden, work organisation/planning/admin and kids school stuff for ages now, so my focus is not good at all.

One thing I can get into though is what I'm eating. I always want to eat nutritious food that feels like it's doing a great job. So if that sometimes tastes like a chocolate milkshake, I'm very happy. I regularly add ingredients such as nut butter, seeds and raw cacao to my food for a good dose of antioxidants and heathy fats. This one is an easy, portable, filling shake with nothing but real food in it's ingredients list. Make sure you check out the "superpowers" attached to each, very normal, not difficult to find or unusual ingredient.

Come on warm September days so that we can get the "milkshakes" back out!

INGREDIENTS:

1 ripe banana (superpowers: fibre, prebiotics and probiotics)

2/3 medjool dates (superpowers: potassium for heart health, phytonutrients to reduce inflammation and support immune system)

1 x tbsp cashew nut butter (superpowers: important minerals such as magnesium, monounsaturated fats for heart health, essential amino acids important for heart, bone health and bloood pressure

1 x heaped tbsp raw cacao (superpowers: antioxidants, gut health benefits, can lift mood and energy)

1 x cup of milk of your choice (superpowers: hmm- I'm not yet convinced in either drection - dairy or non dairy - especially with mass produced, processed anything. Also I don't like strict, cutting out regimes, so go with what you prefer and focus on the reliably magical nuts, seeds etc)

1 x tbsp of mixed seeds (superpowers: heart health, bone health, anti-inflammatory, some have sleep benefits too)

Ice cubes if you want it to be nice and cold - also adds extra hydration.

METHOD:

Whizz up all ingredients together in a nutribullet, food processor or any other whizzer that you have! Add ice in at the end, or into the nutribullet if you want to be cold throughout. A comfy spot outside with the addition of a pink straw, umbrella and flamingo is optional, although if you're feeling a bit depleted and in need of some pampering, I would highly recommend it!

As always, let me know if you make it!
