Why wait till January?

lynnejyoga

Every year at about this time, the annual whispers of “January detoxes” and “New Year Magical Transformations” begin…

To be honest I used to do the same - I'd be confidently chatting about my January health kick whilst diving head first into a box of chocolates as if it was the last chocolate I’d ever eat (it never will be).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in when it comes taking better care of ourselves. Enjoying life to the max requires continual commitment to your wellbeing, and it’s a never-completed project due to our ever-evolving lives and needs.

It’s something I’ve learnt so much about over the years, and I have to say I’ve become really good at it. So much so that I no longer think of my health as something I fit around occasions, or use an upcoming holiday to give me “willpower”. It’s now an all year round commitment to my energy and happiness from all angles - nutrition, sleep, fitness, mobility, calm, and saying no when I need to (that last one is a total game changer btw).

So why wait till January when you could begin prioritising yourself now?

So here's a few ideas just off the top of my head:

  • Bowls of juicy oranges dotted around for an easy and nutritious snack

  • Some warming Christmassy spices sprinkled over porridge or into a sauce

  • A walk in the woods now the routine has chilled a bit

  • Ensuring you’re well hydrated whilst the heating is on and the wine is flowing

  • Planning in some quiet time for a guided relaxation to help you rest when overwhelm is quite likely (there are lots on spotify)

  • Dinners loaded up with varied and tasty vegetables to up the nutrition on your plate

  • Deleting pointless and exhausting jobs from your to-do list

The thing is, January is cold, dark and we’re quite likely to be feeling weary from a fortnight of all the good stuff. And a shocking new routine after a cosy December of warmth and indulgence is more likely to make you feel stressed and exhausted than healthy and energised.

So what about starting today? Regular, mini choices that add up to one big choice: A much more balanced body and mind through December, January and beyond.

Starting today might sound bonkers if you’re a steadfast “head in the quality street until new year’s day” person (I used to be). But it’s actually much easier than you might think…

Start small and watch the mini benefits grow steadily into a huge improvement.

Obvs I’ll be back soon with more suggestions. It's definitely my area of geekiness.

Happy Christmas and I'd love to hear from you if any of this sounds helpful and familiar
